POST COVID, ARE YOU WEARING A FACE MASK AND WASHING YOUR HANDS?

“With COVID cases rising from mid-Sept to mid-Oct, a third of Britons say they are worried about catching COVID this winter, including half of older Britons”

On the 1st November 2022, this article suggested people wanted to go back to Government guidelines of wearing masks and isolating. Notably the source of the story is from a company called YouGov. One might think this company is part of the Government. It is not! YouGov is a private company, partly owned and set up by Nadhim Zaharia. Mr Zaharia is a politician serving as Chairman of the Conservative Party.

Do people really want to go back to wearing masks?

On my first little assignment for the University of Essex called a Vox Pop (voice of the people), I am covering what people are actually doing post Covid spreading precautions.

Please keep in mind, my assignment is to only ask 3 people a question. My information was face to face; I have not invited internet users to answer my question; I have no political or financial gain from doing this small survey.

My question to students from the University of Essex in Colchester:

Post Covid restrictions are you

wearing face masks &washing your hands?

Gloria Wu, a student from Taiwan said, “I am more aware of my hygiene habits, the only reason I am in a mask right now, is because I have a cold and I didn’t want other people to get infected. I don’t think it changes how people see me”.

Gonne Majurabe, a student living in Colchester said, “ I don’t wear a mask, but I do still wash my hands. I do use a sanitiser in public places and I get a couple of stares but only for 5 seconds”.

Abby Fung, a student from Colchester said, “ During Corona Virus I started to wash my hands more and still do that. I don’t wear a mask but people in masks are thinking about themselves and others now, which shows respect for everyone”.

As a direct result of the Corona Virus pandemic, it appears these three students have become more aware of hygiene and how to stop the spread of germs. While mask wearing is not on their agenda unless they are ill, the campaign of singing ‘Happy Birthday’ until you stopped washing your hands, was one positive success story during the Pandemic.
