FORMER DRY TOWN FRINTON WELCOMES ADNAMS BREWERY: OPENING 20 APRIL

The once proud dry town of Frinton-on-Sea has the distinction of an Adnams shop opening on Thursday, 20 April. Adnams of Southwold in Suffolk is a world-renowned brewer, distiller and wine merchant. The company’s project manager, Daniel Ayers, said:

“We have long enjoyed receiving visitors from Essex to our home in Southwold and felt that Frinton is the right place to expand”.

Adnams Brewery has been in business for 150 years, making it over 20 years older than Frinton. It was designed to create excellent, tasty alcohol for consumption and enjoyment. Frinton’s concept was developed by the industrialist Sir Richard Powell Cooper, and Mr Cooper had the opposite idea, which did not allow pubs in its draconian bylaws. In the 1920s, regular visitors included the Prince of Wales and Winston Churchill. Both of whom I hear liked the odd tipple.

Frinton was pretentiously proud to be a dry town, with locals and town officials openly protesting the existence of its first pub that opened in 2000, The Lock and Barrel.

Today, hidden behind the quiet, sleepy streets from 6 pm lies an underworld of young, more mature, athletically enthusiastic alcohol partakers. Some might refer to these clandestine fiestas of fun as their Frinton homes, the golf club, the tennis club, the memorial club or the cricket club.

Ironically, Frinton’s past draconian dry town is now excited to welcome Adnams Brewery to its expanding new appetite. Daniel Ayers, the Project Manager at Adnams, “Frinton represents a match to our target customer profile”. The revolutionary change of Frinton’s now recognised public opinion of enjoyment has developed into attracting great companies like Adnams.

Adnams “We open at 10 am on Thursday, 20 April, and will be having special opening activities.” 97 Connaught Avenue, Frinton-on-sea, CO13 9PS *01255 440830*
